Through the NHL: News from Nolan Patrick, Jake Muzzin, Ryan McLeod and Andrew Ladd

Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon has announced that Nolan Patrick will miss all of next season.

Patrick would thus be added to the long-term injured list (LTIR) of the Golden Knights, already furnished with the contracts of Shea Weber ($ 7.8 million) and goalkeeper Robien Lehner ($ 5 million). The 23-year-old forward has a $1.2 million per year contract.

Acquired from the Knights last summer, the former second choice in the 2017 Philadelphia Flyers draft has only played 25 games with his new roster due to several injuries. Recall that he had missed the entire 2019-2020 campaign due to other injuries.

In 222 games in the National League, Patrick has amassed 77 points, including 32 goals.

Muzzin absent at Leafs camp

Defenseman Jake Muzzin will not attend training camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs this week due to back pain.

Muzzin only played 47 games last season due to injury. He scored 3 goals and collected 11 assists.

The 33-year-old said on Wednesday he was feeling fine after a season marred by two concussion diagnoses.

McLeod finally agrees with the Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward and restricted free agent Ryan McLeod to a one-year, US$798,000 contract.

The deal is worth less than the qualifying offer McLeod received this summer. Last season, he pocketed $834,167.

The 23-year-old athlete registered 9 goals and 12 assists in 71 games last season in addition to adding 3 goals and 1 assist in 16 playoff games.

A 2nd round pick in 2018, McLeod made his debut with the Oilers in 2020-21, scoring 1 goal and 10 games.

Ladd on long-term injured list

The Arizona Coyotes have placed forward Andrew Ladd on the long-term injured list. The veteran failed his physicals on Thursday and will have to miss a long stretch.

Ladd was acquired from the New York Islanders last season. Due to the injury and a condition in the trade, the Coyotes will receive a 2023 third-round pick from the Islanders. Arizona had also received two second-round picks from the Islanders at the time of the trade.

The former Winnipeg Jets captain had 12 points in 51 games last season, his first in Arizona.

The 36-year-old Ladd is in the final year of a seven-year deal that paid him $5.5 million per season.
