Vegas Golden Knights forward Brett Howden was invited to a telephone hearing Wednesday by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety in connection with his blow to the head of Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev, Tuesday evening.
Howden received a five-minute major penalty and was ejected from the game.
Tanev did not return to the game after the incident which occurred at the start of the third period. The Golden Knights did not allow a goal on the ensuing power play, and ultimately posted a 4-1 victory.
Howden got a pass before he was sent off. He had 6 goals and 13 points in 54 games last season, while accumulating 55 penalty minutes.
He had 5 goals and 10 points in 22 playoff games with Vegas.
Lafrenière with Panarin and Chytil
Quebecer Alexis Lafrenière will be offered a great opportunity to shine at the start of the season.
At practice Wednesday, on the eve of the New York Rangers’ opening game against the Sabers in Buffalo, Lafrenière skated on the right flank of the second line completed in the center by Filip Chytil and Artemi Panarin on the left wing.
Lafrenière signed a 2-year contract worth US$4.65 million this summer.
In 81 games last season, he had 16 goals and 23 assists.
Dumais at the doctor
Quebecer Jordan Dumais did not train with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday to consult a doctor.
Injured in the upper body, the Halifax Mooseheads forward remains with the team while he treats his injury.
