Summary of NHL games, Tuesday, December 5, 2023

What a comeback from the Los Angeles Kings who overcame a three-goal deficit after 40 minutes of play to secure a 4-3 overtime victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

It was a goal by Drew Doughty with a slap shot after 33 seconds that capped this comeback for the Kings, who won their first ten games on the road this season. These ten road victories to start a campaign equal an NHL record set by the Buffalo Sabers in 2006-2007.

This is the first time in over 16 years that the Kings have come back by at least three goals in the third period.

Los Angeles caught up to the Blue Jackets by scoring three goals in a span of 6:38 to start the final period of regulation.

With a deficit of three goals, the Kings orchestrated this improbable comeback in the third with two goals from Phillip Danault, who thus scored his first double in the uniform of the Californian club.

Then Arthur Kaliyev’s goal tied the game.

Trevor Moore collected a point in a tenth straight game. Vladislav Gavrikov had two assists and Phoenix Copley stopped 26 shots for the Kings, who have won seven of their last eight outings. Elvis Merzlikins stopped 35 shots in the loss.

The Blue Jackets took a comfortable lead – seemingly – but they were unable to maintain the pace in front of the excellent Kings. On the power play in the first, Kirill Marchenko opened the scoring. It was the first time since October 27 that the Kings fell behind on the road.

In second, Johnny Gaudreau scored his fourth goal of the season while Mathieu Olivier enjoyed his first.

The Hughes brothers produce against the Canucks

Jesper Bratt scored his second goal of the game with 34 seconds left in regulation and the New Jersey Devils beat the Vancouver Canucks 6-5.

Jack Hughes scored a goal and two assists, while his little brother scored on the power play for the Devils. Erik Haula and Michael McLeod also scored in the victory. Vitek Vanecek stopped 28 shots.

For the Canucks, Quinn Hughes collected two assists in the third period.

JT Miller scored a power play goal, in addition to getting an assist. Brock Boeser, Nils Hoglander, Sam Lafferty and Dakota Joshua also scored for the Canucks. Thatcher Demko stopped 26 shots.

Bratt scored the winning goal taking advantage of a return shot that was passed through traffic.

Luke and Jack Hughes set up the Devils’ goal in the second period, the only one of the period and the team led 5-2 after 40 minutes of play.

MacKinnon benefits from Drouin’s vision

Nathan MacKinnon had three points and the Colorado Avalanche had the best 3-2 over the Anaheim Ducks.

MacKinnon opened his account with an assist on Kurtis MacDermid’s net in the first period.

During the second period, Jonathan Drouin spotted his teammate near John Gibson and the goalkeeper was easily beaten. It was MacKinnon’s ninth goal this season and Drouin’s fourth assist.

MacKinnon completed his haul of the evening with the Avalanche’s third goal of the game. He pushed the puck at Gibson on his way back to the front of the net and the puck escaped the goalie. Logan O’Connor only had to push behind the red line to give his team a 3-0 lead in the final period.

On the streak, MacKinnon reached the milestone of 500 assists since the start of his career, all in his 734th game.

After a goal from Sam Carrick, the Avalanche opened the door for the Ducks with a five-on-three power play as Fredrik Olofsson and MacDermid both headed to the penalty box. Unsurprisingly, the Ducks took advantage of this thanks to Leo Carlsson who rocked the ropes for an eighth time this season.

Alexandar Georgiev held on late in the match to help his team end the three-game losing streak. The Avalanche goaltender stopped 31 pucks in the victory. Meanwhile, Gibson left his net with 29 saves on his record.

Bedard can’t keep up with the Preds

Starting in the third round, Filip Forsberg was the third of the Predators to convert his opportunity in a shootout and Nashville prevailed 4-3 at the expense of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Forsberg was involved in Ryan O’Reilly’s equalizing goal midway through the second period.

O’Reilly also hit the mark in the shootout, after a success from his teammate Gustav Nyquist in the same context.

In regular time, the Preds’ other goals came from Luke Evangelista and Mark Jankowski.

For the Blackhawks, goals in regular time were the work of Nick Foligno (twice) and Jason Dickinson. In the shootout, only Connor Bedard hit the target.

Chicago lost a fourth game in a row. The club will try to recover Thursday evening, during a visit from the Anaheim Ducks.

Nashville will face the Canadian in Montreal on Sunday evening.

The Wings slow down the rise of the Sabers

Dylan Larkin scored two goals to help the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Sabers 5-3 in Buffalo.

The Red Wings jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but had to stave off a late surge by the Sabres, who scored the next three goals.

Robby Fabbri, Moritz Seider and Michael Rasmussen scored the other goals for the Red Wings, who have won their last three games and six of their last seven outings. Alex Lyon made 29 saves.

Rasmus Dahlin, Casey Mittelstadt and Jeff Skinner found the back of the net for the Sabres, while Mike Comrie stopped 22 pucks. The Sabers lost their fourth straight game.

Dylan Cozens nearly tied the game with 1:09 left in regulation, but his shot was blocked in front of the Red Wings net.

Larkin completed into an empty net with 46 seconds left in the third period.

Tage Thompson of the Sabers returned to action after missing nine games with an upper body injury. He got help.

Rasmussen made it 4-0 for the Red Wings when he scored alone against the goalie, following a superb pass from Shayne Gostisbehere.

The Wild remain perfect under the orders of John Hynes

Matt Boldy scored two goals and added an assist for the Minnesota Wild, who beat the Calgary Flames 5-2.

Kirill Kaprizov had a goal and an assist, while Marcus Foligno and Joel Eriksson Ek also scored for the Wild, who have won all four games since John Hynes replaced Dean Evason as the team’s head coach. , November 27.

Goaltender Filip Gustavsson blocked 28 shots to improve his record against the Flames to 4-0-1.

Connor Zary and Mikael Backlund were the ones who beat the Wild goaltender.

Dan Vladar stopped 13 of 16 shots in just over one period of work. Dustin Wolf, recently recalled from the farm club, stopped 11 of 13 shots.

The Wild led 2-0 after just 45 seconds of play in the second period, as well as 3-0 after 1:30, when Wolf took Vladar’s place in front of the Flames net.

Boldy’s second goal, at 13:58 of the period, on the power play, gave the Wild a three-goal lead again.
