Summary of NHL games, Monday, January 22, 2024

Tyler Toffoli’s third goal of the game at 2:35 of overtime gave the New Jersey Devils a 6-5 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

This winning goal from the former Montreal Canadiens allowed him to reach the 20-goal mark. This is the seventh time in his career that he has scored at least 20 goals in a season. His career high is 31 with the Los Angeles Kings in 2015-16.

It’s his sixth career hat trick, but the first time his third goal has come in overtime.

This is the 16th time this season that the Devils have overcome a deficit to win.

Curtis Lazar scored two goals, including the one that tied the game midway through the third period and eventually forced overtime.

Nico Hischier scored the other goal for the Devils.

For the Golden Knights, the Quebec skaters did well as Jonathan Marchessault hit the target twice in addition to obtaining an assist while Nicolas Roy moved the ropes once and was an accomplice on two others goals of his own.

Chandler Stephenson and Pavel Dorofeyev have the others for Vegas, which sees its three-game winning streak come to an end.

Devils goaltender Vitek Vanecek was tested 33 times while Logan Thompson in front of the Golden Knights cage faced a total of 38 shots.
