Senators: DJ Smith does not have to fear for his position… for the moment

All indications are that Ottawa Senators head coach DJ Smith is not about to be seen in the local EI office.

Even though the Senators occupy last place in the Eastern Conference with 16 points, the team’s new owner would not consider making a change behind the bench, reports our sister station’s insider TSN Darren Dreger.

“I know it’s not what Senators fans want to hear, but there’s not going to be any change at this time,” Dreger said during the segment. Insider Trading. But it’s obvious that patience has its limits. ”

The Senators, who lost a second straight game to the Florida Panthers on Monday night, have played only 17 games since the start of the season. They notably have 6 games in hand over the Tampa Bay Lightning and the last place giving access to the playoffs.

New owner Michael Andlaeur has already fired general manager Pierre Dorion in the wake of the events surrounding the 2021 trade of Evgenii Dadonov.

Steve Staios, who was named president of hockey operations earlier this season, now serves as interim GM.

Starting Friday, the Senators will play 12 games in 23 days before the holiday break.
