Pierre-Olivier Joseph scored twice in a game for the first time in his career, Evgeni Malkin reached 1,200 points and the Pittsburgh Penguins outscored the Anaheim Ducks 6-3 on Friday.
The Penguins outshot the Penguins 59-31. They drove 25 shots on John Gibson’s net in the first period alone before adding 18 in the second and 16 in the third.
Gibson set a personal best with 53 saves. It’s the fourth time in his career that he’s turned away 50 or more shots in a game.
With his two goals, Joseph has doubled his total goals since the start of the season.
Malkin had two assists. He became the fourth active player to reach 1,200 points on the second as he set up Bryan Rust’s goal in the third period.
Kasperi Kapanen, Jeff Carter and Jake Guentzel were the other Penguins scorers.
Trevor Zegras scored his 19th goal of the season in the first. The Penguins held a 6-1 lead with seven minutes left, but Mason McTavish and John Klingberg completed the scoring for the Ducks late in the game.
