NHL: Vladimir Tarasenko has signed a one-year contract with the Senators

Vladimir Tarasenko chose the Ottawa Senators. The striker has signed a one-year contract that will earn him $5 million in the Canadian captaincy.

Winner of the Stanley Cup in 2018-19 with the St. Louis Blues, Tarasenko has 270 goals and 304 assists in 675 NHL games, including 644 in a Blues uniform.

“Vladimir is a natural scorer,” Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. He’s a dynamic player who can score from anywhere in the offensive zone, as well as an underrated playmaker. He is an established regular season and playoff player. We are delighted to add a player of his caliber to our roster. ”

Tarasenko had just completed an eight-year, $60 million contract with St. Louis in 2015.

Presumably, Tarasenko chose to bet on himself by signing a short-term contract, with the aim of securing a more lucrative long-term deal at the end of the next campaign. In Ottawa, he will be placed in a favorable position by inheriting the role occupied by Alex DeBrincat within the offensive board of the Senators.

Tarasenko, 31, was traded from the St. Louis Blues to the New York Rangers before the latest trade deadline. Eliminated in the first round after the failure of the Rangers, Tarasenko has eight goals and 13 assists in 31 regular season games in New York. During the playoffs, the Russian scored three goals, in addition to amassing an assist in the seven games of the series against the Devils.
