NHL: The Capitals and the Devils host a real whirlwind with a game of ten goals in total

The Washington Capitals made a three-goal surge in the final period to escape with a 6-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils in the only NHL game scheduled on Wednesday.

The meeting was full of emotions for the fans present since both teams scored goals each at their own time.

Washington initially took a three-goal lead in the first period before seeing the Devils respond with four goals in the middle period before finally witnessing a three-goal streak in the last period by the Capitals, which allowed them to return at home with two more points in the standings.

Dylan Strome scored two goals for the Capitals, including the tying goal, just 18 seconds into the third. The winning goal was claimed by Connor McMichael less than two minutes later.

Quebecer Anthony Mantha scored the first goal of the game in addition to collecting an assist.

Sonny Milano also found the back of the net for the Capitals.

Veteran Alex Ovechkin finished the game with an empty-net goal and an assist.

In the defeat, the stars of the Devils did as the day before in Montreal and took all the space in a whirlwind of goals in the middle period.

New Jersey erased a three-goal deficit in the second in a span of 2:12 to tie the game. Author of a hat trick against the Canadiens on Tuesday, Tyler Toffoli added two goals to his record in addition to obtaining an assist. Five of Toffoli’s six goals this season have come in the final 24 hours.

For his part, Jack Hughes added three assists to his tally, having collected four yesterday at the Bell Centre. This is the fifth time this young season that he has had a game with more than one point, having collected a point in a sixth consecutive game.

Nico Hischier and Timo Meier have the other goals for the Devils.

In his first career start, goaltender Hunter Shepard survived the Devils’ second-period surge to score his first NHL win. He faced 22 shots.
