Sidney Crosby reached an impressive 1,500 points since the start of his career during the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings.
The Penguins finally had the last laugh on their opponents, winning 5-1.
The captain needed three points on Saturday to get there and his second goal of the game in the third period confirmed that. He became the seventh player in history to record 1,500 points with a roster.
“It’s a team sport – it’s what got us into hockey and it’s why we love hockey,” Crosby said. There are plateaus that make you look a little more at the road traveled but at the moment, it is our situation that matters to me. ”
“We still have a long way to go. I’m happy to be there, but I always had in mind to do my best and from there, come what may. ”
Crosby hit the target late in the first frame with just three seconds left on the clock. He then made himself an accomplice on the net of Danton Heinen before bringing the mark to 4-1 Penguins with his 33e goal of the season, this one on a power play. The accomplices were Kristopher Letang and Jake Guentzel.
Crosby raised his 1500e point to sound 1188e game with 550 goals and 950 assists. He is the 15th player in NHL history to amass at least 1,500 points.
“He’s still working on his game,” said Red Wings Sherbrooke resident David Perron, who played with Crosby from 2014-16.
“I ran into him during the All-Star game break, we were at the same hotel. I spent some time with him. He continues to put in the effort. He always wants to improve. ”
This gain allows the Penguins to post 90 points with two games to play. They rank one of two among teams drafted in the East, ahead of the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers with 89 points each and 79 games played.
With 16 straight appearances at the spring ball, the Pennsylvania club has the longest streak of its kind in North America, in major sports.
