Forward Nathan MacKinnon has signed an eight-year contract extension with the Colorado Avalanche, the National Hockey League team announced Tuesday.
The agreement, which will officially begin as of the 2023-2024 season, will earn the player an average of US$12.6 million annually, according to our collaborator Pierre LeBrun. He will thus become the highest earner in the NHL.
Oilers forward Connor McDavid sat at the top with an annual average of $12.5 million.
MacKinnon had 32 goals and 45 assists in 56 games and added 20 goals and 13 assists in 20 playoff games to lead the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup.
