NHL: James van Riemsdyk will go under the knife

Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk is scheduled to undergo finger surgery on Friday.

Flyers head coach John Tortorella said the operation is not expected to end his season, although the team does not yet have a timeline for its return to play. the absence could be for a period of one month.

The 33-year-old was injured in Sunday’s 3-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks. It was used 3:29 before leaving the game.

van Riemsdyk has two goals and five points in six games this season, his fifth since joining the Flyers as a free agent in 2018. He had 24 goals and 38 points in 82 games last season.

van Riemsdyk is earning seven million dollars below the salary cap in his final year of contract.

In career, he scored 290 goals and amassed 567 points in 885 games with the Toronto Flyers and Maple Leafs. He was selected second overall by the Flyers in the 2007 draft.
