NHL: Carrier brings the Preds out of the abyss by cutting into overtime against the Oilers

Alexandre Carrier scored in overtime, and the Nashville Predators defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime on Monday night.

The Quebec defender got his second goal and only second point of the season at the right time, ending his team’s six-game losing streak. He grabbed a long pass from Cody Glass from his area and beat Jack Campbell with a wrist shot.

Carrier injured his upper body in the December 10 game against the Ottawa Senators and was unable to complete the game. He was making a comeback today.

The Preds took the lead three times in the game, but each time the Oilers tied the game, including twice on the power play via Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who earned his 17th and 18th goals of the season. Jesse Puljujarvi has meanwhile found his touch after going the last 25 games without scoring.

Mattias Eklholm, Jordan Gross and Matt Duchene were the other scorers in the victory, which added goalie Juuse Saros to his 30-save record.

Connor McDavid contributed two assists and Campbell made 30 saves for the Oilers, who had won the last eight meetings against the Predators.
