Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has been offered an in-person hearing for his actions against Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig, the National League Department of Player Safety announced hockey on Sunday.
Rielly has been in turmoil since he double-checked Greig in the face after the latter had scored into an empty net at 19:54 in the 3rd period with a slap shot.
The in-person hearing means Rielly could be suspended six games or more, but that’s not a guarantee. The date of the hearing is not yet known. Note that the Maple Leafs will not play their next meeting before Tuesday.
Grzelcyk fined
Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk was fined $5,000 for darting Washington Capitals forward Max Pacioretty, the Department of Player Safety announced.
This is the maximum fine allowed, according to the collective agreement currently in force.
Grzelcyk was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct following his action at 18:13 of the first period of Saturday afternoon’s game between the two teams.
