The Zach Wilson episode is finally over on the New York side. NFL Media reports the Jets have traded the former second overall pick to the Broncos.
In the operation Denver concedes a sixth round choice (number 203) and recovers a seventh round choice (number 256). Additionally, the Jets will pay a portion of Wilson's $5.5 million guaranteed salary for the 2024 season.
In short: the Greens really wanted to get rid of their old hope.
Zach Wilson, from prospect to player who makes the numbers
In need of a quarterback since the departure of Russell Wilson, the Broncos are thus recovering for cheap – if not a project for Sean Payton – at least depth at the most important position in the game.
For its part, New York gets rid of a player who has become cumbersome, while Wilson benefits from a new start which could perhaps allow him to prove that he is better than what he produced in Gotham… it's up to not say much.
Wilson leaves the Big Apple after three seasons and 34 games. He threw for 6,293 yards (57.0% completions), 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
The Zach Wilson trade
- The Broncos receive: Zach Wilson (QB), a 7th round pick (256)
- The Jets get back: a sixth-round pick (203)
