Vikings extend (and increase!) Kirk Cousins

The end of an era among the Vikings. Only for the coach. Because the purple franchise will continue with the same quarterback.

According to ESPN, Kirk Cousins has signed a one-year contract extension. Here he is engaged until the end of the 2023 campaign.

If the operation allows the Vikings to lower the impact of Cousins in the payroll, it allows, paradoxically, the player to get a raise.

Cousins was originally slated to receive $35 million in salary in 2022 and count for $45 million in payroll. Finally, he will receive 40 million and will weigh “only” 31.25 million in the payroll. This sleight of hand is explained by two cancellable years added to the contract for 2024 and 2025.

In 2023, Cousins will earn $30 million. And the good news for him is that these 70 million in two years are fully guaranteed!

In total, at the end of his contract, number 8 will have accumulated 231.7 million green tickets in his career.

Last season Cousins, 33, had 33 touchdowns for 7 interceptions. But his Vikings have only very rarely seemed in the game. A few weeks ago, Kevin O’Connell took over from Mike Zimmer as coach. With an offensive coach by his side, the quarterback will have the assets to try to justify his contract.
