The NFL loves nostalgia for its halftime shows. Or let’s say the league likes what thirty- and forty-somethings with a little purchasing power will want to watch nostalgically.
This Sunday, Apple Music and the NFL announced that it is Usher who will perform during the break of Super Bowl LVIII, February 11, 2024 in Las Vegas. Kim Kardashian participated in the announcement video, without knowing if she will have a role to play in the show or if she was just there to bring her (many) subscribers on social networks.
The 44-year-old artist has not released an album since 2016.
Ranked 16 times at number one on the Billboard chart since the start of his career, he has also been in the Top 10 36 times. In recent years, these have often been collaborations.
His last number 1 dates back to 2016 for “No Limit”, with Young Thug
Usher at the Super Bowl as Dr. Dre, Eminem and Snoop Dogg
After entrusting the Super Bowl to Rihanna last season, the NFL returns to the early 2000s, with the same recipe as when Dr. Dre and his troupe took on the show in 2022: an artist who went strong and who will attract an already won over audience. The youngest ? Apparently, that’s not the NFL’s target audience.
Usher has become quite an artist, since he notably participated in the show The Voice in the USA. In 2020, he even announced that he would take up residence in Las Vegas for 12 concerts in a row, like much older artists, and without the fun of the tigers of Siegfried and Roy.
