Titans – Raiders (24-22): it’s a crisis in Vegas!

Tennessee Titans (1-2) – Las Vegas Raiders (0-3): 24-22

First for the Titans! After two defeats to start the season, the Titans finally taste victory. A success first built in attack in the first half then in defense in the second half.

Yet the Raiders thought they could play a nasty trick on their opponents when Mack Hollins (8rec, 158 yards, 1TD) managed a superb reception in the endzone 1 minute from the end on a 4th and goal.

But behind the attack the Raiders misses the conversion by two points and Tennessee avoids overtime. A rather logical result given the course of the match.

A perfect start for the Titans

What a first half for the Titans! In difficulty offensively since the start of the season, Tennessee finally found the key this Sunday. In one half, the Titans had 24 points, 275 yards and a 3/3 in the red zone!
Far from being helped by opposing turnovers, the Titans were able to move forward and garner yards on all their series. After a touchdown on reception from Geoff Swain and one on the run from Derrick Henry (20 races, 85 yards, 1TD), it was Ryan Tannehill (19/27, 264 yards, 1TD, 1INT) who scored the 3rd of the evening after a series of 89 yards!

To complete his recital, Tennessee even manages to add a field goal in just 20 seconds to reach the locker room by leading 24-10 against the overwhelmed Raiders.

Indeed, Las Vegas seemed lost at all levels in this first period. Defensively, the lack of talent is once again felt with no player to make the difference and above all a non-existent pass-rush despite a Titans line that is not in good shape…

Offensively, Josh McDaniels still fails to give his team a strong identity. There was this ball pass from Derek Carr (26/44, 303 yards, 2TD, 1INT) for Davante Adams (5rec, 36 yards, 1TD) at the bottom of the endzone and the touchdown (14-10 at this time there) but that’s about it. Then nothing… The Raiders chained the punts in attack.

Bend but don’t break

In the second half, the nice things shown by the Titans in attack disappear completely. The aerial game and the ground attack no longer advance. The locals even lose balls like this interception launched by Tannehill.

Inevitably this inability to move forward and keep the leather ends up being felt in defense. After conceding two field goals, the Titans see the Raiders come back to 24-16! But the defense does not bend and performs two big decisive actions: first an interception on Derek Carr by Kevin Byard in his own endzone! Then the two-point conversion stopped at the very end of the match.

Tennessee therefore avoids a big disappointment in a match yet dominated from A to Z. The men’s season of Vrabel may finally be launched. On the other hand, things get complicated for the Raiders with 3 defeats in as many matches. In a very competitive AFC, this delay may be difficult to overcome.
