Between departures of many players and rumors around Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry, the Titans’ offseason was a bit unclear.
On Friday, they clarified the future of their defense. The leader will be Jeffery Simmons for four more years. ESPN announces that the defensive lineman has been extended for 4 years and $94 million, with $66 million guaranteed. This amount includes a signing bonus of $24 million.
Simmons was entering the final year of his tenure in Tennessee. He’ll get $10.7 million in 2023 as part of the optional fifth year of his rookie contract, an option the Titans had activated.
The four years of this extension will then arrive to keep him in Nashville until the end of the 2027 season. He will then be 30 years old.
Nineteenth choice of the 2019 Draft, Simmons has established himself for the past two years as the basic man of defense for Mike Vrabel. In 2021 and 2022, he was selected to the All-Pro Second Team. He had 7.5 sacks and 54 tackles in 15 games last season.
