The second pick in the 2016 draft is returning to the league.
He is back. Second choice in the 2016 draft and considered in certain periods as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, notably in 2017, quarterback Carson Wentz will sign with the Rams, according to information from ESPN and NFL Network.
The player had been without a club since leaving the Commanders last season after a failed experiment that was set to seal his future in the NFL. Carson Wentz, more and more disappointing as the seasons progressed in Philadelphia, was pushed out, without then managing to convince either in Indianapolis, or therefore in Washington.
For the Rams, it is a question of strengthening the bench at the most important position of the team, and at this stage there would be no negative news which could lead one to believe that Matthew Staffird, the indisputable holder, will not be no return in two weeks for their return from bye. However, the very mediocre performances of Brett Rypien (18/38, 172 yards, 0 TD, 1 Int) convinced the Californian franchise that it was too dependent on a very young, and increasingly injured, Stafford.
For now, Wentz will therefore be restricted to a rotation role. But we can also imagine that he will have the opportunity to prove that he still belongs to the group of pitchers capable of creating differences in the league. With Sean McVay as coach, and in a team that has no immediate pressure, he will perhaps be in the ideal setting to regain his former level. In the meantime, the player is in any case showing his character and his attachment to the game, by accepting a replacement position which is not necessarily easy when you have been one of the headliners in the league.
