The Patriots place a transition tag on their safety Kyle Dugger. A riskier decision than a classic tag.
The Patriots take the risk! The New England franchise has just placed a transition tag on Kyle Dugger, according to NFL Network. This means that the safety can be approached by other teams but the Patriots will have the opportunity to match any offer. On the other hand, if they do not do so, they will not receive any compensation in the transaction.
An interesting choice which will allow Foxborough officials to assess the market price for their safety. But behind the scenes, the two parties are still in the process of agreeing on a long-term contract. If Dugger doesn't receive an offer, he will receive a salary of $13.8 million.
Three interceptions including two touchdowns
In February, NBC Sports noted that new Patriots coach Jerod Mayo “likes” Dugger’s profile and would like to keep him on the roster. Selected in the second round of the 2020 draft, the safety is coming off a very good 2023 campaign with three interceptions, including two returned for a touchdown, eight blocked passes, a forced fumble and a recovery. He also has one sack and 78 tackles in 15 games.
