The NFL is looking towards Australia (but not only)

Roger Goodell has already announced that he wants a global NFL. And the league does not hesitate to look far.

On Tuesday, Peter O'Reilly, the league's director of international affairs, confirmed that Australia is among the countries in the running to host a match.

“Australia is part of a group of markets that we are looking at. And it’s not a small group,” O’Reilly said.

Understand that other countries are currently on the league's radar.

The NFL in Australia, already concrete initiatives

Except that many countries do not yet have concrete links with the NFL. This is indeed the case for Australia, which will host an NFL Academy from September. Furthermore, being an English-speaking country makes things easier.

Ireland, and more precisely Dublin, would also be among the potential destinations.

This summer, members of the NFL will visit certain countries to observe the stadiums, the popular enthusiasm and the facilities which could accommodate the teams.

“When we talk about Asia, the Pacific and Australia, there are questions of distance and logistics, with the football aspect corresponding to that. So these factors are real. But our role is to really look at the globe, see where there are big supporter bases and do our evaluation work. »

Brazil, Spain… And others

Now that NFL owners have given the green light to 8 international games per year starting in 2025, the possibilities are opening up.

Brazil will be entitled to its first match at the start of the 2024 school year. Spain will follow in 2025.

France had been mentioned in 2022. But since then, the NFL has no longer really talked about France.
