The Cowboys will cut Ezekiel Elliott

Coming out of the smallest statistical season of his career, and with the franchise tag on Tony Pollard, Ezekiel Elliott was no longer really considered indispensable in Dallas.

A feeling that will be confirmed this Wednesday. According to the Star Telegram, the runner is going to be cut by the Cowboys, likely within hours.

The end of a story that lasted 7 years. In 2016, Dallas selected Elliott in 4th place in the draft. A confidence rewarded from his rookie season, marked by 1631 yards on the ground and 15 touchdowns. What immediately offer him a selection in the first All-Pro team.

Except that Elliott will never reproduce such a performance, even if he still exceeded 1,300 yards in 2018 and 2019. Last season, sharing duties with Pollard dropped his counter to 876 yards.

Elliott is above all a victim of his big contract, which was to allow him to receive a little more than 10 million dollars in 2023. He will now have to find another team, and wear for the first time a jersey other than that of the Cowboys.
