Steelers – Titans (20-16): Will Levis misses the apotheosis

Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) – Tennessee Titans (3-5): 20-16

He’s not the first, and probably not the last. Thursday evening, Will Levis (22/39, 262 yards, 1 int) perhaps thought he had done the hardest part when his team led 16-13 in the last quarter. Or when he had the ball twice in the last four minutes to get the victory and be the hero of the evening.

But the Steelers are like that. In any case when they win: the attack does just enough, the defense finishes the job. This is what happened again.

Kenny Pickett (19/30, 160 yards, 1 TD) found Diontae Johnson (7 rec, 90 yards, 1 TD) for a touchdown 4:02 from time. Enough to put Pittsburgh back in front (20-16). Then, TJ Watt and his teammates did what they do best: be decisive. They stopped Levis and company on a fourth attempt. And when the iron attack couldn’t even keep the clock ticking, the curtain took over.

This time, Levis came close to interception twice, before putting the ball definitively in the hands of Kwon Alexander. Too bad, he was only 19 yards away from the feat.

The Steelers finally start, Will Levis on diesel

For once, Steelers fans didn’t have to wait long to see their team score. From the first offensive, Najee Harris (16 races, 69 yards, 1 TD) and Jaylen Warren (11 races, 88 yards) are in the rhythm, Pickett and Johnson too. And Harris scores after we haven’t even played five minutes. The Titans are more timid. They start with a field goal. But Will Levis returns to his match, despite the almost incessant pressure from the opposing defense. Derrick Henry concludes in the end zone.

With one more field goal, it makes it 13-10 at halftime for Tennessee. The two teams still exchanged kicks after the break and the score was 16-13 at the start of the last quarter, still in favor of the visitors.

While they seem to have stalled after their good start and George Pickens (2 rec, – 1 yard) is not in, the Steelers are finally waking up. Harris and Warren are again at the base of a 92-yard offensive, completed by Diontae Johnson to regain the decisive advantage (20-16). Will Levis will therefore not be able to recover, stopped by the experience of TJ Watt and his gang.

Despite an attack plugged into alternating current, the Steelers are more than ever in the race for the playoffs with a record of 5 wins for 3 losses. On the Titans side, Will Levis missed the conclusion, but the rookie quarterback continues to show that he has a good arm, that he is not afraid of pressure and that he deserves to keep his position.
