Steelers: Justin Fields should remain a starter

Justin Fields should get at least a second chance as a starter for the Steelers. After Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury a few days before the first game, Fields was able to start against the Falcons. Mike Tomlin said in his press conference that Wilson is feeling better, but that he remains doubtful for the second-week game.

“He (Russell Wilson) feels better today than he did over the weekend. What that means, I don't know yet. I know we're going to take the same approach we take with a lot of people in terms of injuries. […] During the week we will analyze if he is able to protect himself, if he is able to be productive. When we get to those points, that's when we will think about whether he will participate or not.”

Uncertainty surrounding the health of Wilson, the usual starter, which therefore benefits Justin Fields. The former Bears quarterback will therefore train this week in the shoes of number one.

“Right now, we’re preparing as if Justin is going to be our quarterback,” Mike Tomlin said. “I think that’s the right way to go about it. Speculation is a waste of time. Russell’s injured, he’s not available. And so as you know, I generally focus my energy on who’s available and how they’re prepared. I just saw Justin, he just had a good workout and I’m looking forward to maybe a full week with him in terms of the preparation process. But, again, we’ll take it day by day.”

In his first game in a Steelers jersey, Justin Fields did Justin Fields. A lot of running, and short passes. He completed 17 of his 23 attempts, but for only 156 yards. If on a few balls His connection with George Pickens seemed promisingPittsburgh's offense was still uninspired. A win without scoring a single touchdown is still not very good news. Good news, however, it can hardly be worse. Justin Fields should get another chance to prove his worth, as the Steelers travel to Denver on Sunday.
