Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) – Kansas City Chiefs (15-1): 10-29
That was the Chiefs' goal for this game, it's done: Kansas City officially wins the AFC and will play the playoffs at home. In a generally dominated match, Patrick Mahomes (29/38, 320 yards, 2 TDs) found the level that makes him the best player on the planet.
The quarterback seems to have found his rhythm, which is also the case for Travis Kelce (84 yards, 1 TD). Andy Reid's men are full of confidence and if the attack maintains this level they will be candidates for the title, in the crazy quest for an unprecedented treble.
For the Steelers, it's a third defeat in a row after the Eagles and the Ravens. If Mike Tomlin's men will be in the playoffs, there seems to be a gulf between the best teams in the league and these Steelers, limited like Russell Wilson (23/37, 205 yards, 1 INT).
A first act in two stages
Often in difficulty at the start of matches, the Chiefs did not experience the usual shocks. Dominant defensively, inspired offensively, the magic recipe. Patrick Mahomes is comfortable in the pocket and finds his targets. Xavier Worthy (89 yards, 1 TD) first, then Justin Watson (60 yards, 1 TD) then, each for a touchdown. In the blink of an eye, the Chiefs are ahead 13-0.
While Pittsburgh is on the rebound, it is Russell Wilson who makes sure to sink his team by throwing a terrible interception in the redzone. Fortunately for him, it was only a postponement, the Steelers finally taking the measure of the opponent.
In eleven actions and 72 yards, the Steelers unlocked the counter. George Pickens (50 yards) takes care of the air, Jaylen Warren (112 yards) of the ground and Russell Wilson of the conclusion (7-13). After 30 minutes, the Chiefs were no longer comfortable with a big lead.
Yards after yards, Patrick Mahomes makes the difference
The second act is a fight between two brave but unimaginative teams in the red zone. Quite logically the two teams exchange a field goal (10-16).
While this game looks like it will remain undecided until the game, Patrick Mahomes changes things up. beaming, he first finds his targets before seeing Kareem Hunt finish on the ground. A few minutes later, he found his best friend Travis Kelce twice for another touchdown (10-29). Between the two touchdowns the Steelers quickly lost the ball with a fumble from Pat Freiermuth (60 yards).
In just a few minutes, the Chiefs made the hole, the Steelers will not come back. More than ever, the Chiefs are the kings of the AFC.
