Seattle Seahawks (3-2) – New York Giants (2-3): 20-30
Seattle is surprised at home by New York.
Mike McDonald's players record their second consecutive defeat of the season. Unlike the match against the Lions where they lost in an encouraging manner, the manner of the defeat today is much more worrying. The attack was not a great night, with Geno Smith sacked 7 times against a great New York defense, led by Dexter Lawrence in the oven and in the mill (3 sacks).
The Giants attack was able to count on an efficient Daniel Jones. But the real heroes are rookie runner Tyrone Tracy Jr. and receiver Darius Slayton.
New York surprises
The first period saw the domination of New York. The visitors monopolized the ball for a good part of the match. Unfortunately, on their 3 offensive series close to the touchdown, they left with mixed fortunes, not allowing them to be ahead in the score at half-time.
First, they concede points after an unfortunate fumble by Eric Gray close to opening the scoring, returned for a… 101-yard touchdown by Rayshawn Jenkins. Then, they converted by Wan'Dale Robinson (6 REC, 40 yards, TD), well found by Daniel Jones (23/34, 295 yards, 2 TDs). Finally, they waste an opportunity with this same Robinson committing a costly loose ball, not allowing the Giants to regain a touchdown lead.
And the Seahawks in all this? Not much to sink your teeth into. Only 90 yards covered with 2 small yards running for poor Kenneth Walker III (5 races, 19 yards, 7 REC, 57 yards). However, at halftime, the Seahawks still managed to be tied with their opponent. This is almost a hold-up given the poor first offensive period of Mike McDonald's team.
Lots of garbage in the attack in Seattle
The second half will see the Seahawks make a series of errors in attack. DK Metcalf (4 REC, 55 yards) commits a fumble, covered by the opposing team. Then, a bad play call allows Brian Burns to sack Geno Smith (28/40, 356 yards, TD) on a 4th attempt. Finally, a few minutes from the end of the match, it is the only offensive touchdown scorer Jaxon Smith-Njigba (4 REC, 31 yards, TD) who does not catch a ball although well thrown by his quarterback.
This action should have allowed Seattle to equalize. But, Jason Myers sees his kick stopped by Isaiah Simmons. Bryce Ford-Wheaton took advantage of the opportunity to score his first career touchdown. An evening where many firsts took place on the Giants side.
Excellent this evening, Darius Slayton (8 REC, 122 yards, TD) scored his first touchdown of the season, making us forget the absence of Malik Nabers. Highly visible on the ground after Eric Gray's blunders, Tyrone Tracy Jr. (18 races, 130 yards) achieved his first game with more than 100 yards running, taking advantage of the absence of Devin Singletary. Finally, it is also the first time since the 2020 season that the Giants have won twice consecutively away from home.
It's over! The Giants counter the equalizing field goal and will score behind. The Giants win their second game of the season! pic.twitter.com/4sI8aIvUiJ
