Seahawks – Cardinals (19-9): Seattle defense sinks Arizona

Seattle Seahawks (3-3) – Arizona Cardinals (2-4): 19-9

Division duel between 2 teams with the same record before this match.

In a game where the offensive lines were in great difficulty (11 sacks, 13 pressures from both teams), it was the Seattle rookies who made the difference in the last quarter. First, the running back Kenneth Walker III (21 races, 97 yards, 1 TD), author of the only touchdown in attack.

Then, cornerback Tariq Woolen, author of the fatal interception in Arizona and Kyler Murray (23/37, 222 yards, 1 INT – 10 races, 100 yards, 1 FUM), allowing Seattle to eat the clock. This is his 4th in a row in 4 games.

Missed opportunities

From the first drive, an event happens. Arizona will score points in the first quarter, which had never happened to them this season. The problem is that in the red zone, Arizona is lost with dubious offensive calls. Result: a field goal and the feeling of an unfinished taste.

On the next drive, another missed opportunity for Arizona and Byron Murphy who failed twice to intercept Geno Smith in front of DK Metcalf.

Painstaking executions

After these first 2 drives, the defenses take over. But if they take over, it is because the attacks are laborious with the aerial attack of the Cardinals which does not take off and a ground game of the Seahawks which is hardly better.

However, for the latter, this is enough to score 2 more field goals before halftime (9-3).

The poisonous fumble

While the offensive lines continue to suffer with 4 sacks for the 2 teams in the 3rd quarter alone, Kliff Kingsbury’s team is more enterprising in attack. But, Kyler Murray does too much and commits a fumble covered by Tariq Woolen.

Except that this fumble is not at all exploited by Seattle, which even finds a way to concede a touchdown on special teams following a fumble from punter Michael Dickson recovered by Chris Banjo. (12-9).

Kyler Murray too alone

Boosted by this error, Pete Caroll decides to change strategy and goes through the air. Geno Smith (20/31, 197 yards) finally finds Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. And after the touchdown of Kenneth Walker III who allows himself to humiliate Byron Murphy on his run to give 2 possessions in advance, Arizona must quickly return to the game.

But, Kyler Murray is intercepted, then sacked again by Shelby Harris in a match where he was in great difficulty but not helped, especially without DeAndre Hopkins. Even without him, the Cardinals attack is slipping and the pressure is therefore on Kliff Kingsbury who must find solutions next Thursday against the Saints.

As for the Seahawks, this result confirms the good start to the season for Pete Caroll’s team and that the reconstruction is on the right track.
