NFL Media has confirmed fears regarding Derek Carr. The New Orleans quarterback suffers from a severely broken left hand. He was injured on the reception of a dive in order to gain a few additional yards following a breakaway on the ground. He is also followed under the post-concussion protocol.
A potential return to play is not considered for a few weeks, which, given the progress of the season, could mean an end to the campaign for the pitcher. However, the club's interim coach, Darren Rizzi, was very optimistic during his press conference on Monday, and did not rule out a rapid return of his pitcher.
“Derek has an injury to his left hand,” Rizzi said. “Right now, I don't think it's a situation that requires him to be put on injured reserve. I think it will be more of a weekly assessment. We'll take it day by day this week. We'll see how it goes this week. He is also in the post-concussion protocol, so he will have to pass the first stage tomorrow. »
Derek Carr has juggled injuries this year
Carr had previously missed three games this year. Hit in the obliques against the Chiefs in week 5, he was replaced by Spencer Rattler for mixed success. During this period the Saints lost three times. New Orleans also has Jake Haener in the relief squad.
In his eleventh season in the league – and his second with the Saints – Carr played 10 games, for 5 wins and 5 losses. He threw for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He is still under contract with the Louisiana franchise for two years.
