Ron Rivera fired by Washington Commanders

New owner, new coach. Ron Rivera is unfortunately a regular. Already fired by the Panthers after the takeover of the franchise, the coach has just experienced the same fate in Washington.

According to ESPN, the Commanders have decided to fire Rivera.

Not really a surprise after a season of 4 wins for 13 losses, his worst record since his arrival in the capital in 2020.

Josh Harris, the owner who arrived in July 2022, inevitably saw it as an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and choose himself who will be the coach of his team. He also quickly began the reconstruction, since he has already hired Bob Myers, the former general manager of the Golden State Warriors (NBA) and Rick Spielman, former general manager of the Vikings, to help management look for a new coach. .

With Ron Rivera, never anything positive

In four seasons at the head of the Commanders, Rivera will have experienced a lot. Team names, first. The Redskins, the Football Team then the Commanders. But above all defeats. Much more than victories.

His record: 26 victories, 40 defeats and one draw. Worse, in four campaigns, he has never managed to achieve a positive result. His best result: 8 wins, 8 losses and a draw in 2022.

Not necessarily helped by the quarterbacks at his disposal (Taylor Heinicke, Sam Howell, Alex Smith who was quickly injured, etc.), Rivera never convinced. Especially since his defenses, although made up of quite a few talented players, have never really reached the level expected, even though this sector of the ball is supposed to be his specialty.

After nine seasons with the Panthers and four in Washington, Rivera now has a perfectly balanced record of 102 wins, 102 losses and 2 ties.

The Commanders will begin to rebuild with the second choice of the Draft.
