Ron Rivera (Commanders): “The quarterback is the difference with the other teams in the NFC East”

No regrets, but no results.

At the start of the sixth week of competition, the teams of the NFC East all have at least four victories.

Except Commanders.

When Carson Wentz arrived in the federal capital, Ron Rivera defended his new quarterback against criticism and praised the confidence he instilled in his teammates during the offseason. But now the club seems more engaged in the race for the first choice of the draft than in the duel for a place in the playoffs. And the comments of the coach have evolved.

Lunid, when asked about the main difference between his team and its division competitors, the technician’s answer was clear.

“The quarterback,” Rivera replied according to Fox Sports.

If the coach has measured his remarks a little more, it is to clarify that in his opinion, the other teams benefit from stability in the most demanding position in football, while Wentz has just arrived in Washington. It may be forgetting a little too quickly that Daniel Jones is learning a new system of play, or that the Cowboys are led by Cooper Rush in the absence of Dak Prescott.

Either way, Rivera claims to have no regrets about the choice to recruit Wentz.

“Our quarterback did some good things, and he had a few bad games where he struggled… Most of the time he’s very solid… But his performance yesterday? It just shows what he’s capable of. We chose him because we believe in him. »
