Robert Saleh (Jets): “Zach Wilson is the one who gives us the best chance to win”

Zach Wilson attempted 36 passes for 157 yards Sunday against the Patriots. His team lost again. With a rating of 53.3, he has the worst rating of all NFL quarterbacks after three games.

But Robert Saleh is an optimist. He showed it again in a press conference after the defeat against New England.

“Currently, he is the one who gives us the best chance of winning,” assured the Jets coach at a press conference.

Better, Wilson has even progressed according to his coach.

“His presence in the pocket is definitely better. His decision-making and accuracy have really improved. New England has a great defense. »

What about when the quarterback appeared to hold the ball too long?

“Maybe it was the defense’s coverage that was good. I have to look at the pictures. »

Saleh clearly protected Wilson better than the offensive line.

“It’s still the start of the season. We knew that even with Aaron Rodgers there would be failures because there is a new attack, a new coordinator, a new line, new players on attack. Now there is this unexpected event that falls on us, so they are adapting and they will progress. But it’s early in the season. »

No alternative to Zach Wilson at the moment

Each time the possibility of another quarterback was brought up by the press, Saleh cut it short with firm “no”. Sorry for Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz, who reportedly contacted the Jets directly to offer their services.

In addition to his 2 touchdowns for 4 interceptions since the start of the season, Wilson was seen scrambling with Garrett Wilson, his star receiver, on the sidelines.

Again, no problem.

“No, I’m not worried about the locker room. We have a great locker room. It’ll be OK. »

So everything is fine.
