It was in the Union Square district, one of the liveliest in San Francisco, that Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery that went wrong on Saturday.
The Associated Press reports that the 49ers receiver was shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital in what was described as “serious but stable” condition in a statement released by the San Francisco franchise.
His alleged attacker was also injured when emergency services arrived. He too was taken to hospital.
Pearsall's teammate Deebo Samuel posted a more reassuring message on X: “I'm going to be okay. Thank God!!!!”
According to Gunviolencearchive.org, 18,854 people were killed by guns in the United States in 2023. More than 1,600 of the victims were children under the age of 17. In 2024, as of September 1, guns have already claimed more than 11,000 lives.
Ricky Pearsall, expected rookie
Drafted 31st in the last Draft, Ricky Pearsall missed part of training camp due to hamstring and shoulder injuries.
But the 23-year-old returned to training last week, although he was not allowed to take any knocks to let his shoulder complete its healing.
His contribution to an already talented 49ers offense is enough to make defenses tremble. Unfortunately, that will have to wait until he recovers.
