Rams – Panthers (24-10): Los Angeles provides, Carolina lifeless

Los Angeles Rams (3-3) – Carolina Panthers (1-5): 24-10

The success of the Rams took a long time to take shape this Sunday. It was not until the end of the 3rd quarter to see the defending champions pass in front of the score (17-10) on a 17-yard touchdown from Ben Skowronek.

Behind Los Angeles only had to manage without a hitch a starving attack (8 first downs, 203 yards, 1 passage end red zone…) from the Panthers led by a PJ Walker (10/16, 60 yards) not at the level ( and left on concussion), a Christian McCaffrey (13 races, 69 yards, 7 rec, 89 yards) too alone and a Robby Anderson (0 rec, 1 smirk, 10 Fu*k), already on the start… The dismissal of Matt Rhule hasn’t changed anything on that side, the season is going to be very, very long for the players and their fans.

Fewer first attempts obtained, fewer yards gained, zero crossings in the red zone… and yet Carolina leads in the score (7-10) on returning to the locker room. Again, the Panthers can thank their defense.

Indeed, if the attack put a field goal on its first series (0-3), it is especially the defense of Carolina which wins this first half. First by forcing the Rams to punt on three of their five drives but above all by causing a pick-6 (7-10) by Donte Jackson on a pass from Matthew Stafford (26/33, 253 yards, 1TD, 1INT).

Between these various failures in attack, the Rams had still managed to score a touchdown on a reception from Allen Robinson (5rec, 63 yards, 1TD). A rather laborious drive with several 3rd successful attempts in extremis…

The Rams pass the second

In the second half, the Rams end up making the difference. Obviously first thanks to their defense which chained the stops and forced the Panthers to multiply the punts.

Then it’s the attack that ends up taking advantage of its many opportunities to rack up the points. After a field goal to return to equality (10-10), Stafford finds Skowronek for the touchdown of 17 to 10.

In the middle of the last quarter, Darrell Henderson (12 races, 43 yards, 1TD) rushes into the pile while powerful to add a new touchdown to the scoreboard. Los Angeles then leads 24 to 10 and is definitely sheltered from any disappointment.

The defense drives the point home by intercepting Jacob Eason, 2 minutes from the end, when the Panthers had finally reached the opposing 10 yards. When it doesn’t want…

The champions return to a balanced balance sheet. Before “celebrating” their return, we will have to see them face a much tougher team than the Panthers.
