Rams: Aaron Donald announces his retirement!

Aaron Donald's career is over!

The player announced on Twitter that he is retiring. He therefore left the NFL having only played for one team: the Rams.

First in Saint Louis, then Los Angeles. An essential point in his thank you press release.

“Throughout my career, I have given everything to American football, mentally or physically. 365 days for the year, I dedicated myself to becoming the best player I could be.

I respected this game like no other, and I am fortunate to conclude my NFL career with the same team that drafted me. Few people get drafted by a team, win a World Championship with that team, and retire with it. I do not, and will never, take this for granted.

As I look toward a new chapter, I don't know what the future holds, but I'm excited about the possibilities off the field. I'm looking forward to spending more time with my wife and children. The biggest reward has been being able to play this sport with them by my side, and I can't wait to see them live their dreams like they watched me live mine. »

Aaron Donald, 10 legendary seasons

It was therefore at only 32 years old that Aaron Donald left the NFL. Not really a surprise, as he had already floated the idea for the past two years.

The defensive tackle leaves after 10 seasons during which he accumulated 111 sacks in 154 regular season games. A staggering total for a player playing as a defensive tackle. His masterpiece remains the 2018 campaign, punctuated by 20.5 sacks! That year, he won one of his three defender of the year titles (2017, 2018 and 2020).

Collectively, the highlight will remain 2021-22, the Rams' title season. A Super Bowl won against the Bengals in which Donald was decisive, with 2 sacks, including a decisive one in the final moments.

The orphan Rams

While the Rams raised their heads last season, they are orphaned by their defensive leader. Aaron Donald is a player who is absolutely impossible to replace.

The defense was also largely built around the ability of its star to attract the opposing attention to allow others to shine. Chris Shula, their defensive coordinator, will therefore have to be very creative to keep the squad afloat.
