The winds of change continue to blow through Las Vegas. A few hours after Josh McDaniels’ dismissal, it’s Jimmy Garoppolo’s turn!
NFL Media announces that the quarterback will be benched for the Raiders’ next game, this Sunday against the Giants. The big winner in history: Aidan O’Connell.
The rookie selected in the fourth round of the last Draft will be entitled to another chance. Because he had already replaced Garoppolo at the beginning of October, when the latter suffered a concussion. O’Connell then returned a record of 24/39 for 238 yards, an interception and a loss. A game during which he conceded 7 sacks.
Jimmy Garoppolo… but also the offensive coordinator
Arriving during the offseason, Jimmy Garoppolo was clearly McDaniels’ choice. He went to the bench after only 6 games started, for a record of 6 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
A few hours before announcing the benching of Jimmy Garoppolo, Sports Illustrated also reported the departure of Mick Lombardi. In the wake of the announcement of Josh McDaniels’ departure, the fate of the offensive coordinator was unclear. Finally, he will follow his main coach to Pôle Emploi. He will be replaced by Bo Hardegree, until then quarterbacks coach.
Lombardi arrived in Las Vegas at the same time as McDaniels, also from New England, where he successively held the positions of quarterbacks coach (2019) then receivers coach (2020-2021).
