Raiders: Gardner Minshew named starting quarterback

Antonio Pierce promised to name his starting quarterback after the second preseason game, and he kept his word. And the winner is: Gardner Minshew!

Less than twenty-four hours after an average second preparation match for both Minshew and Aidan O'Connell, the coach has therefore chosen experience. He announced it in a press conference via videoconference.

It's not based on the last game. There are a lot of factors. We think Gardner gives us the best opportunity to get off to a good start this season,” Pierce justified.

In the first two preseason games, Gardner Minshew has gone 16/33 for 212 yards and a touchdown.

Gardner Minshew, the choice of experience

One factor the Raiders coach mentioned is probably experience. At 28, Gardner Minshew has started 37 games in his career. The 15-22 record isn't great, but it's still more than the 10 games started by Aidan O'Connell, who is only starting his second season at age 25.

Minshew also has a career-best rating (90.2 vs. 83.9). With him, the Colts nearly made the playoffs last season.

The Raiders will play their first game of the regular season against the Los Angeles Chargers.
