Thursday is MVP! This time, the dice seem cast. Barring a cataclysm during the last week of competition, Patrick Mahomes seems to have done everything well to win a second MVP title. Interrupted very early in the terrible circumstances that we know, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow could not make an impression. Jalen Hurts, still on the flank, either. As for Justin Jefferson, his only reception during the sinking of the Vikings will not remain in the annals.
1- Patrick Mahomes (-) Quarterback – Kansas City Chiefs (13-3)
16 games – 5,048 yards 67% – 40 touchdowns, 12 interceptions – 329 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns – 105.2 rating
Another excellent performance for Patrick Mahomes. Jostled by more eye-catching Broncos than expected, the Chiefs had to rely on their quarterback who perfectly knew how to deliver the goods. With 328 yards and three touchdowns, Mahomes erases at the same time the bar of 5000 yards and that of 40 touchdowns on this season while he still has one game to play against the Raiders. The match was also moved to Saturday, on national television. The scene is therefore perfect for Patrick Mahomes who can thus complete his MVP campaign and why not glean at the same time the first place in the AFC, synonymous with a week of rest next week.
2- Joe Burrow (-) Quarterback – Cincinnati Bengals (11-4)
15 games – 4,260 yards at 69% – 34 touchdowns, 12 interceptions – 247 yards, 5 rushing touchdowns – 102.3 rating
For dramatic reasons that everyone knows, Joe Burrow only walked the field for a quarter time against the Bills.
3- Jalen Hurts (-) Quarterback – Philadelphia Eagles (13-3)
14 games – 3,472 yards at 67.3% – 22 touchdowns, 5 interceptions – 747 yards, 13 rushing touchdowns – 104.6 rating
Injured Jalen Hurts has yet to play this week which is a serious blow to his chances of being MVP. However, to see the face of his attack, without him, shows how much he has had an MVP face all season. Will he be on the field for the last week against the Giants? Everything will depend on the willingness of the Eagles coaching staff to risk his health or let him rest for the playoffs.
4- Josh Allen (-) Quarterback – Buffalo Bills (12-3)
15 games – 4,029 yards at 63.4% – 32 touchdowns, 13 interceptions – 746 yards, 7 rushing touchdowns – 96.1 rating
For dramatic reasons that everyone knows, Josh Allen only walked the field for a quarter time against the Bengals.
5- Justin Jefferson (+1) Receiver – Minnesota Vikings (12-4)
16 games – 124 receptions, 1771 yards to 14.3 yards per reception, 8 touchdowns – 4 receptions, 24 yards to 6 yards per reception, 1 touchdown
Absolutely not involved in the Vikings’ defeat against the Packers, Justin Jefferson took advantage of a statistically unproductive game from Nick Bosa to find the top 5. This obviously does not detract from the absolutely incredible season of the receiver who has almost certainly become the future offensive player of the year. However, this game against the Packers very clearly sounds the death knell for his hopes of reaching the 2000 yard mark in one season. It is certainly only a postponement.
