[Preview] Week 13 (Thursday): Cowboys chase Seahawks (and Eagles)

Kick-off on the night of Thursday to Friday at 2:15 a.m.
Dallas Cowboys (8-3) – Seattle Seahawks (6-4)

This Thursday, the Cowboys hope to kill two birds with one stone. Or, as the proper English expression goes, “kill two birds with the same stone”. As long as it’s a hawk and an eagle. Dallas indeed has a double objective when approaching this 13th week of competition. The first is to put one of the Wild Card candidates at an almost insurmountable distance. By beating Seattle, Mike McCarthy’s men would in fact take three “games ahead” of their first pursuer in this race for 5th place in the NFC. Suffice it to say, an almost definitive gap with only 5 games remaining for the Cowboys.

13 consecutive home victories for the Cowboys

The Texas players will thus be able to concentrate on the second objective of the evening: putting pressure on the Eagles. Currently, Philadelphia is two games ahead of Dallas in this NFC East division (and in this conference). A win would bring them closer as Jalen Hurts’ teammates take on San Francisco this weekend. For the moment, Philadelphia is doing flawlessly, getting rid of the Bills and the Chiefs in the last two weeks, but Dallas hopes to be as close as possible to the Eagles before facing them again in two weeks.

To do this, we will have to beat Seattle. The good news for the Cowboys is that they are impeccable at home. They currently remain on a streak of 13 consecutive victories in their stadium. Their last defeat dates back to the opening of the 2022 season, when Tom Brady and the Buccaneers came to win at AT&T Stadium (19-3). Since then, no one can resist Micah Parsons’ partners. Better, everyone took at least more than 20 points.

First opponent with a positive record at home

In the wake of a Dak Prescott in great form (2935 yards, 70% completions for 23 TDs and 6 INTs), the attack is running at full speed. It’s simple, the Cowboys score 40 points on average at home. An offensive force that can shake Seattle. The only difference for Dallas this time will be their opponent’s record. For the first time this season, they will face at home a team that has a positive record. So far, the Jets, Patriots, Rams, Giants and Commanders have appeared in Texas. With the Seahawks, the level will rise.

Seattle is not in great shape, however. The Seahawks started the season well, but are now stalling a bit. Currently, they are still qualified for the playoffs. Except that the upcoming schedule is monstrous. After Dallas, they will have to face the 49ers again before playing against the Eagles. Three very high-level matches which could put an end to the playoff hopes of Pete Carroll’s players. Unless the Seahawks increase intensity and hang on against the juggernauts of the NFC. And it starts this Thursday.
