After a worrying defeat in every way for the Bengals in Baltimore, it’s now time for the rest of the NFL. This weekend, the big league is doing Hollywood for us with the remake of a match that became a blockbuster during the most important match of the year. Nine months after their Super Bowl LVII, Chiefs and Eagles meet again in Kansas City. This is THE match not to be missed this week.
We will also talk about a pass-rusher duel, Russell Wilson, the Raiders’ ground attack and Sean McDermott. Here is the program for week 11.
The match: the remake of a blockbuster
Kick-off on the night of Monday to Tuesday at 2:15 a.m.
Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) – Philadelphia Eagles (8-1)
It’s a match still on everyone’s mind. THE February 12, 2023, in Arizona, the Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in four years. Facing them, the Eagles who fought until the last minute. A match which will remain as one of the most beautiful clashes of recent years. 9 months later, these two franchises meet. The stakes are certainly no longer as high, but the suspense is intact. Kansas City and Philadelphia each had a week off and both teams were able to prepare perfectly for what may already be a dress rehearsal for the playoffs.
The Eagles will have a vengeful spirit after this heartbreaking defeat. The Chiefs will want to prove that despite a start to the season which raised some questions about their offensive play, they are still a winning machine. The appearance of this meeting could, however, be very different from this big match. In Glendale, the attacks took everything in their path for a total of 73 points scored in all (38-35). Now the Chiefs have the best statistical defense in the league (15.9 points conceded per game). Which currently represents their best chance of winning this meeting.
The duel: Myles Garrett vs. TJ Watt
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Cleveland Browns (6-3) – Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3)
What if this was Myles Garrett’s year? In the league since 2017, the pass-rusher has never won the best defender of the year trophy. However, he accumulates 85.5 sacks as well as 17 forced fumbles in 93 games played. And this season is no exception. Garrett is still as dominant as ever. In nine matches, he already has a total of 11 sacks (1st tied with Danielle Hunter) to which must be added 4 forced fumbles. Above all, he is the best defender on what is perhaps the best defense in the league. On the other side of the field in front of him, Garrett will have one of his most serious candidates for this title: TJ Watt.
The Steelers pass-rusher already won it in 2021. And he’s still as consistent as ever. He is also following his counterpart with 10.5 sacksas well as 6 passes defended, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles And 3 fumbles covered. In short, there will be two monsters on the field this Sunday. Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kenny Pickett will therefore have to be careful in a match which could be won on defense. The two attacks indeed arrive with several hesitations that the defensive squads will not let pass. From a distance, Garrett and Watt will want to make a good impression in their race to that title.
The statistic: 136.5
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Miami Dolphins (6-3) – Las Vegas Raiders (5-5) – in
Here is the average rushing yard gained by the Raiders over the past two games. Against the two teams from New York, Las Vegas won 125 Then 148 yards rushing. This is one of the biggest changes since Antonio Pierce took over. The interim coach has decided to make the ground his priority and it shows. For comparison, since the start of the season, the Raiders had one of the worst rushing attacks in the league with only 83.3 yards gained per match (30th in the league). Symbol of this renewal: Josh Jacobs.
Since the start of the season, the running back had not exceeded the 70 yards only once (77 yards vs. the Patriots). Since then, he has recorded 98 yards against the Giants and 116 against the Jets. We should therefore expect a good dose of Jacobs against the Dolphins. But Miami has the weapons to counter this trend. Since the start of the season, Floridians have only allowed 106.2 yards rushing (13th in the league). The Raiders will have to take inspiration from the Chargers (233 yards) and Panthers (188 yards) who are the only ones to have really exposed this defense on the ground.
The player: Russell Wilson
Kick-off during the night from Sunday to Monday 2:20 a.m.
Denver Broncos (4-5) – Minnesota Vikings (6-4)
This week on social networks a letter of apology for Russell Wilson flourished. Viral content that was launched by Courtland Sutton himself. With this publication, the Denver receiver highlighted an obvious truth: the quarterback is doing much better than last year. In 2022the former Seahawk had in fact launched 16 touchdowns for 11 interceptions. In 10 matches only this season, Wilson is already 18 touchdowns for only 4 interceptions. In its wake, the Broncos have just scored a third consecutive victory. They currently have the best current series in the AFC.
Facing them on Sunday, Sean Payton’s men see another team in good shape in the league: Minnesota. The Vikings have not lost since October 8 and therefore remain on 5 successes. This meeting, which would perhaps not have attracted many people a few weeks ago, therefore becomes extremely uncertain and interesting. Denver and Russell Wilson still have playoff hopes and this Sunday Night Football can either confirm them or reduce them to almost nothing after a defeat. Whatever happens, the pitcher will have to stay on his current good form to continue accepting the excuses on social media.
Coach: Sean McDermott
Kick-off Sunday at 10:25 p.m.
Buffalo Bills (5-5) – New York Jets (4-5)
The first match between these two teams seems like forever ago. Bills and Jets had indeed faced each other during the first week of competition. Aaron Rodgers was still there and the Bills were emerging as an AFC juggernaut. Since then, the multiple MVP has ruptured his Achilles tendon and has only played three snaps with New York and Buffalo has been disappointing week after week. Performances that worry. The Bills no longer seem to have the momentum that allowed them to reach (at least) the Divisional Round for the last three seasons. Sean McDermott has one of his biggest challenges ahead of him: turning this team around.
During the week, the franchise thanked Ken Dorsey, the offensive coordinator. We know that the dismissal of the OC or DC is often the first fuse to blow. Be careful though, because the next one is almost automatically the coach. We are still far from it for those who are currently experiencing their 7th season with the Bills, but he absolutely must find solutions. Josh Allen is disappointing and the quarterback will also be scrutinized during this game. Facing a solid Jets defense (19.1 points conceded per game, 7th in the league)the opponent will be tougher.
The (other) division duels
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Detroit Lions (7-2) – Chicago Bears (3-7)
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Jacksonville Jaguars (6-3) – Tennessee Titans (3-6)
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Washington Commanders (4-6) – New York Giants (2-8)
Kick-off Sunday at 10:25 p.m.
Los Angeles Rams (3-6) – Seattle Seahawks (6-3)
In the other division duels this week, the NFC will be in the spotlight. In the North first with a match which seems particularly unbalanced in Detroit. The Lions offensive squad is currently exploding everything in its path and not sure that Chicago is equipped to stop it. Above all, even with the return of Justin Fields, the Bears offense does not seem ready to keep up. Then to the East with a meeting between the Commanders and the Giants. These two teams are far from the lead and might be better off thinking about what’s next.
In the West to finish, the Seahawks travel to Los Angeles for the ” return match “ between these two teams. During the first week, the Rams had indeed played a bad trick in Seattle by winning at Lumen Field (30-12). For Geno Smith’s partners, victory is imperative if they want to stay in touch with San Francisco at the top of this division. Finally, in the AFC, the South will be in the spotlight. The Jaguars who just fell against the 49ers saw the Texans come back at full speed. Jacksonville hosts the Titans who appear to be a notch below.
The rest
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Carolina Panthers (1-8) – Dallas Cowboys (6-3)
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Green Bay Packers (3-6) – Los Angeles Chargers (4-5)
Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Houston Texans (5-4) – Arizona Cardinals (2-8)
Kick-off Sunday at 10:05 p.m.
San Francisco 49ers (6-3) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5)
The rest of the week’s meetings will take place mainly in the early evening. After their defeat last Thursday, the Panthers had 10 days to prepare for the visit of Dallas this Sunday. Not sure, however, that this will help them against one of the best teams in the conference. Cowboys who hope to put pressure on Philadelphia which plays the next day. At the same time, Green Bay hosts the Chargers. Two teams who are losing track of their season. If the winner can keep some hope for the future, the loser on the other hand will be able to look down at the end of the season.
In the AFC, on the other hand, the Texans are looking upwards. After their great victory against the Bengals, Houston put the Jaguars in its sights. The head of the division is achievable, but to do that you have to do the work. CJ Stroud’s partners must beat an Arizona team well within their reach. However, watch out for the return of Kyler Murray who gave the Cardinals a boost. Finally, in California, the 49ers want to confirm their comeback. After their success over the Jaguars, they continue their tour of Florida with this time the Buccaneers on the program.
