[Preview] Week 10: San Francisco in danger

After this success for the Bears against Carolina, it’s now time for the rest of the NFL. This weekend, we are interested in a duel between Florida and California. The Jaguars welcome the San Francisco 49ers for a meeting between two teams with opposing dynamics. However, this meeting promises to be exciting. This is THE match not to be missed this week.

We will also talk about the match in Frankfurt, Antonio Pierce, the duel between Brandon Staley and Jared Goff, Joe Burrow and CJ Stroud and Josh Dobbs. Here is the program for week 10.

The match: the awakening of San Francisco

Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Jacksonville Jaguars (6-2) – San Francisco 49ers (5-3)

This time, San Francisco no longer has any room for error. After a perfect start to the season, the Californians have fallen asleep on their laurels a little. A month later, Kyle Shanahan’s men had three consecutive losses and have not had a victory since October 9. While all observers agree that it’s not a lack of talent, the situation is about to be alarming. San Francisco needs to wake up. An awareness that passes through Florida. A trip to Jacksonville that will be far from easy.

Because if the 49ers are losing momentum, the Jaguars have had the wind in their sails. Jacksonville may be the healthiest team in the league right now. The Jaguars have the literally opposite dynamic of their evening opponents. The season started badly with one victory for two defeats, before taking off strongly. They thus chained 6 consecutive successes and have not lost since September 24. Brock Purdy and his partners will therefore have to be strong to bring down Doug Pederson’s men. Except that now, the 49ers no longer have a choice.

The duel: Brandon Staley vs. Jared Goff

Kick-off Sunday at 10:05 p.m.
Los Angeles Chargers (4-4) – Detroit Lions (6-2)

The two men know each other well. They worked together in Los Angeles. While Jared Goff was the Rams’ quarterback, Staley took care of the franchise’s defense. For a whole season (2020), the technician’s squad trained in front of the launcher. This will be the case again this Sunday, except that it will not be training. The Chargers defense will try to slow down the Lions’ offensive weapons, starting with its quarterback. Jared Goff is the 5th pitcher in the league in the number of yards thrown per game this season (271.4).

Californians know what they have to do. They will have to watch in particular Amon-Ra St. Brown who has just had a third match at 100 yards or more in a row. But the mistake would be to focus only in the air for Staley. He knows it, Detroit is the only team to be ranked in the Top 6 offensively in passing, but also in running. The ground will therefore be an important element, especially if David Montgomery comes to provide support to an already very good player, Jahmyr Gibbs.

The statistic: 2,250 yards

Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Cincinnati Bengals (5-3) – Houston Texans (4-4)

They are only 5 launchers to have accumulated 2,250 yards (or more) during their first eight starts as a rookie. Among them, two face each other this Sunday in Cincinnati. The first, Joe Burrow, achieved this performance upon leaving LSU in 2020. For the second, he is doing it with a thunderous start to his career. Their face-to-face meeting this weekend promises to be interesting. This statistic is not the only point in common for these two pitchers who went through Ohio State.

Obviously, the Bengals quarterback is further ahead, but CJ Stroud is proving that the Texans were wise to bet on him. At Paul Brown Stadium, it wouldn’t be surprising to see an offensive explosion between Cincinnati and Houston. The two franchises are on a good dynamic, driven by their respective launchers. On the one hand, the Bengals want to put pressure on the Ravens, on the other, Houston is trying to crack the Jaguars, who are respectively leading the AFC North and South.

The player: Josh Dobbs

Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Minnesota Vikings (5-4) – New Orleans Saints (5-4)

This is perhaps the great story of this season. Josh Dobbs is taking advantage of every opportunity given to him. Originally a Cardinals player, the pitcher was traded to the Vikings last week. Five days later, here he is in charge of the Vikings’ attack against the Falcons. The quarterback who had to replace Jaren Hall at short notice, concussed at the start of the game, rose to the occasion. It only took him a few snaps adaptation to then allow Minnesota to secure this victory.

Currently, Kevin O’Connell’s players are clinging to the last seat for the NFC playoffs. To continue to believe in it, Dobbs will have to continue his momentum. Starting with this Sunday against a division leader: New Orleans. The two teams have the same record and are relatively close in terms of level of play. This meeting promises to be close and Josh Dobbs will have another opportunity to perform.

Coach: Antonio Pierce

Kick-off during the night from Sunday to Monday 2:20 a.m.
Las Vegas Raiders (4-5) – New York Jets (4-4)

The electroshock worked in Vegas. While Josh McDaniels had just been fired a few days earlier, the Raiders blew up the Giants defense last Sunday. A welcome reaction for a team which does not lack talent, but which has struggled to prove it since the start of the season. The beginnings are therefore successful for Antonio Pierce, the interim coach. Now the hardest part remains to be done: confirm. For this, the other team from New York presents itself in Nevada this Sunday.

Jets who have a similar profile to the previous opponent. Robert Saleh’s men display a solid defense, but an offensive squad that struggles to advance. If Las Vegas puts the same ingredients as last week, the franchise could return to 50%. An important match for the playoffs therefore, especially since they will have to face Kansas City then Miami before their week off.

Frankfurt

Kick-off Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Frankfurt
New England Patriots (2-7) – Indianapolis Colts (4-5)

Last year, following a match between the Colts and the Patriots, one of the two coaches suffered a defeat. Frank Reich had, in fact, been thanked by Jim Irsay in the wake of the setback 26-3 against Patriots. What if the same scenario happened on Sunday… on the Patriots side? We are still far from the dismissal of Bill Belichick, but the question deserves to be asked.

Right now, New England is the worst team in the AFC. The technician, multiple Super Bowl winner, no longer seems to have control. A new defeat could weaken him even more. The Patriots are certainly not fans of this type of practice, but with the bye week approaching the timing could lend itself to it. In the meantime, Belichick is not thinking about it and the Patriots want to remain undefeated outside the United States (3-0).

Division duels

Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Baltimore Ravens (7-2) – Cleveland Browns (5-3)

Kick-off Sunday at 10:25 p.m.
Dallas Cowboys (5-3) – New York Giants (2-7)

Only two matches this week will involve two teams from the same division. In the AFC North first, Baltimore wants to maintain its superiority against the pack that is on its heels. The other three teams (Steelers, Browns and Bengals) are at 5-3 and the Ravens have no room for error. This Sunday, they welcome a Cleveland team which is coming off a good performance against the Cardinals. Later in the evening, the Cowboys remain in the NFC East. After the Eagles, Dallas this time faces the Giants. Adversity should be a (or even two) notch(s) below. Ideal to restore confidence to Mike McCarthy’s men before the final sprint.

The rest

Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) – Green Bay Packers (3-5)

Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-5) Tennessee Titans (3-5)

Kick-off Sunday at 10:05 p.m.
Arizona Cardinals (1-8) – Atlanta Falcons (4-5)

Kick-off Sunday at 10:25 p.m.
Seattle Seahawks (5-3) – Washington Commanders (4-5)

Kick-off on the night of Monday to Tuesday at 2:15 a.m.
Buffalo Bills (5-4) – Denver Broncos (3-5)

In the rest of Sunday’s games, Pittsburgh and Green Bay meet in the early evening for a matchup between two victorious teams in week 9. At the same time in Florida, Tampa Bay and Tennessee want, conversely, to make up for their poor performance last weekend. Later in the evening, Atlanta travels to Arizona in an attempt to return to 50% of victory. The event of this meeting will especially be the return of Kyler Murray. The quarterback should start for the first time this season, several months after his serious knee injury.

Still in the NFC West, the Seahawks will know the result of the 49ers when they host the Commanders. Seattle took a beating last week and absolutely must find some momentum to continue to believe in the division title. Finally, Monday Night Football pits the Bills against the Broncos this weekend. Buffalo has (Again) lost against Cincinnati and failed to take advantage of the Dolphins’ defeat. Facing the Broncos, they are playing a pivotal match in their season so as not to let the crisis take hold.
