Washington Commanders – New England Patriots (10-20): Drake Maye insists
Drake Maye (13/20, 126 yards, 1 TD) continues to battle for the starting quarterback job. Coming into the game after a series without a result given to Jacoby Brissett (2/4, 19 yards), Maye started by leading an 88-yard offensive drive capped by an 18-pitch pass for a touchdown from Kevin Harris.
Things got more complicated after that for Drake Maye, who threw three punts and missed a field goal. But it wasn't just a question of level of play on Sunday. After a big sack, Brissett got up grimacing and holding his shoulder. He continued for two plays before leaving, and Jerod Mayo assured that he could have played in a game with a lot at stake. But it adds another parameter to the Patriots' decision at quarterback. If Drake Maye doesn't get the job right away, he showed this preseason that he shouldn't wait too long.
After his great preseason, Jayden Daniels, another rookie quarterback from the 2024 class, was rested by the Commanders.
New Orleans Saints – Tennessee Titans (27-30): Will Levis sharpened
Will Levis had a successful break-in. The Titans' starting pitcher only played two series, but with a touchdown and a field goal. He completed passes of 33 yards (to Calvin Ridley) and 22 yards (Tyler Boyd, Nick Vannett). It's also Brian Callahan's entire offense that seems to be running well, since it continued to accumulate points with Mason Rudolph (11/15, 114 yards).
Tennessee seems to be approaching the start of the school year with confidence.
On the Saints side, the starters were rested. The opportunity for Spencer Rattler (7/13, 105 yards, 1 TD) to visibly take the advantage over Jake Haener (8/17, 87 yards) in the race for the backup quarterback position.
Denver Broncos – Arizona Cardinals (38-12): Zach Wilson is still there
The starters of both teams were rested. The returning Zach Wilson (16/25, 251 yards, 2 TDs) was thus able to remind that he landed on the Denver side. Enough to succeed in winning a spot as third quarterback behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham? We will have to wait for the final cuts.
On the Cardinals side, things went less well for another former starter. Desmond Ridder (10/16, 111 yards) left with an injury. He suffers from a concussion.
