Patriots send Mac Jones to Jaguars

The 2024 offseason is definitely full of quarterback moves. According to ESPN, the Patriots completed the trade of Mac Jones to the Jaguars. The counterpart would be a meager 6th round in the next draft. The transaction will only become official once the new season begins on March 13.

NFL media reports that no less than 4 teams were interested in the services of the former Alabama quarterback.

Originally from Jacksonville, it is therefore a return home for the former 15th choice of the 2021 draft. He returns to Florida to be Trevor Lawrence's understudy, from the same promotion as Jones.

The experience at New England seemed destined to end after a chaotic 2023 season where the player was sent to the bench on several occasions, despite unconvincing understudies. However, the adventure had not really started during his rookie season. Jones had had an interesting season given the aerial cast around him and the Massachusetts franchise could have some hope. But since then the regression has been permanent for Jones, and the 2023 season ended with a catastrophic record of 2,120 yards thrown, 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
