As he entered the final year of his rookie contract, Rhamondre Stevenson signed for four more years with the Patriots. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the contract amount is $36 million, $17 million of which is fully guaranteed.
With this extension Stevenson enters the circle of the highest paid runners in the NFL. Far from the $19 million per season obtained by Christian McCaffrey (RB, 49ers) at the beginning of the month, he is now the sixth highest paid runner in the league with $9 million per season.
In full reconstruction, the New England franchise continues to secure its main players for the years to come. Hunter Henry (TE) and Christian Barmore (DT) also signed an extension during this offseason.
A mixed start to his career
In a Patriots offense that has been sluggish in recent seasons, Stevenson has had an up-and-down first three seasons. After a full 2022 season where he accumulated 1,461 yards and 6 TDs in running and receiving, the runner saw his statistics drop sharply in 2023, hampered by injuries, with only 729 yards gained in total.
Not having continued the adventure with Ezekiel Elliott, the Patriots are renewing their confidence in Stevenson to support rookie quarterback Drake Maye next season.
