Mac Jones will no longer be threatened by Bailey Zappe. Because Bailey Zappe won’t be around.
ESPN announces that New England took advantage of the latest cuts in the workforce to thank Zappe, who had started two games last season. Two games won by his team. Zappe had finished the season with 5 touchdowns thrown for 3 interceptions.
New England chose him in the 4th round of the 2022 Draft.
If Zappe is not claimed on the waiver, he could return to the Patriots practice squad. But since pitchers with starting experience are scarce, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a team try their luck.
The Patriots also cut Malik Cunningham, which means Mac Jones is currently the only remaining quarterback on the Patriots roster.
