Tom Brady retired in the spring of 2023 with 7 rings. Something to see coming. But Patrick Mahomes is already on his trail.
Against the 49ers, the Chiefs quarterback won his third ring, already, at 28 years old. Here he is on the same crazy rhythm as Brady.
Asked by NFL Network TuesdayMahomes has not hidden that the record of the legendary number 12 is in the back of his mind.
“I don’t want to have any regrets at the end of my career. And I know how great the franchise, the coach, the tight end and the players I have around me are. And I don't want to let that go. I want to make sure I maximize my opportunity. Obviously the goal is always seven, it's always trying to get as many as possible. »
Patrick Mahomes: “Tom Brady is the greatest in history”
If he wants to dethrone Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes does not forget the mountain that stands before him.
It was on another stage of his media tour, on the Pat McAfee Show, that he recalled it.
“Tom Brady is the greatest in history, and I love being compared to him. But I still have a lot of time left in my career, he's managed to have longevity and be consistently great every year.
All I can do is try to continue to be the best version of myself every day so I have no regrets. Besides, I heard Tom say that a long time ago, that his goal was to be the best version of Tom Brady possible. Everything else happens accordingly. […] I was lucky. I was lucky to be in a great franchise with great players. And if I continue to work the way I do, I won't have any regrets, no matter how my career ends. »
The opportunity to get ahead?
If Tom Brady had three titles at 27, he then experienced a (relative) slump. He had to wait until he was 37 to get his fourth ring! The next ones fell to 39, 41 and 43 years old.
By picking up one or two rings in the years to come, Patrick Mahomes would therefore have the opportunity to get ahead of Brady's passing times.
As he himself pointed out, the hardest part will probably be to last that long to have the opportunity to go for the record.
