Carolina Panthers (1-5) – Atlanta Falcons (4-2): 20-38
Atlanta continues! A time hung by the Panthers, the Falcons gradually used their multiple offensive weapons to make the difference: Drake London (6 rec, 74 yards, 1TD), Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier all scored. With 38 points, the Falcons reached their best total of the season.
Opposite, Carolina ended up cracking in the fourth quarter like Andy Dalton (26/38, 221 yards, 2TD, 2INT) intercepted twice in the final moments of the match.
The Falcons lead the way
After a punt exchange, it was the Panthers who opened hostilities first. With 6 minutes of possession and 67 yards collected, Andy Dalton leads his team to the touchdown (7-0) by finding Diontae Johnson (6 rec, 78 yards, 1TD) for the reception on a 3&10.
Atlanta responds tit-for-tat with a touchdown on its offensive series. Kirk Cousins (19/30, 225 yards, 1TD) on the pass and Tyler Allgeier (18 races, 105 yards, 1TD) on the ground move the chains. In the end it was Bijan Robinson (15 races, 95 yards, 2TD) for the touchdown (7-7).
The Panthers added a field goal (10-7) to get back in front after taking advantage of an advantageous starting position following a loss of ball by their opponents. A short-lived advantage since on the following series, the Falcons took control on the scoreboard thanks to a touchdown (10-15, successful 2-point conversion) from Bijan Robinson.
The visitors widened the gap a few actions later. First the special team against the Carolina punt and allows the attack to go back to the Panthers' 27 yards. A gift that Cousins and his attack do not let pass. The quarterback finds Drake London at the end of the series for the touchdown (10-22).
However, Carolina held on and found the touchdown just before halftime (17-22) thanks to a nice pass from Andy Dalton and an equally nice reception from rookie Xavier Legette.
Andy Dalton too short
After several field goals on both sides (20-28), the Panthers are still in the match to surprise the favorite Falcons of the match.
But the match turned against them in the last quarter with 10 minutes to go. While they are in the opposing camp, the Panthers see their quarterback being intercepted by AJ Terrell. The visitors take advantage of this ball recovery to apply a clear game plan: run to eat up as much of the remaining time as possible.
And this tactic works more than well for the Falcons. Allgeier and Robinson alternate carries and go up 70 yards between them. It's Allgeier who finishes for a touchdown on a 2-yard run. The visitors then lead 35 to 20 with 5 minutes remaining. The Panthers are KO
Atlanta adds a field goal and even an interception at the very end of the match. With this new victory, the Falcons are well established at the top of the NFC South division.
