Panthers: Bryce Young is benched

Things are not going well in Carolina. After two abysmal seasons, the Panthers had taken the gamble of Bryce Young in 2023 with the first pick of the draft to transform the club's results. But after a disappointing rookie season, and two first games of 2024 that ended in embarrassing defeats, the Young experiment is put on hold. According to NFL Network Andy Dalton is now the starter of the attack while Young is relegated to the bench.

A start to 2024 in line with 2023

The idea is obviously for the sophomore to catch his breath off the field, while the veteran Dalton will face the Raiders in Week 3. This, despite Dave Canales' initial denials following the game against the Chargers. The coach had insisted that Young is the leader of the Panthers' attack. An assertion that did not last.

In the first two games of the campaign, Young completed only 55.4% of his passes. He produced 245 yards and 3 interceptions for no touchdowns. He had finished his first NFL season with a record of 2 wins for 14 losses, the worst ranking in the league that gave Chicago the first pick of the last draft.

Red Riffle to the rescue

Carolina will therefore rely on an experienced veteran to try to straighten out its season. At 36, Andy Dalton has a personal record of 83-78-2 in the league. Last year, already present with the Panthers, he appeared in three games for a record of 361 yards and 2 touchdowns thrown without interceptions. With the Saints in 2022, he had produced 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
