Packers – Lions (20-34): Detroit dominant, then Detroit worrying

Green Bay Packers (2-2) – Detroit Lions (3-1): 20-34

Intercepted after the third play of the match, the Lions could have had a very bad evening at Lambeau Field. Fortunately for them, this didn’t bode well.

The Detroit attack, led by David Montgomery who was particularly in good shape for his return (32 races, 121 yards, 3 TDs), unfolded against the Packers who came out to boos at halftime.

Matt LaFleur was able to remobilize his troops after the break. The offense revitalized, the defense much more aggressive on Goff (2 sacks suffered). Jordan Love (23/36, 246 yards, 1 passing TD, 1 rushing TD, 2 INT) finally in the match brings his team back to two possessions at the start of the last quarter. But silent until now in the second half, the Lions attack woke up and scored the touchdown which sealed their victory while taking care to run out the clock.

Detroit won its fourth game in a row against Green Bay, the second at Lambeau Field, but not without needlessly scaring itself.

Indomitable Lions

In the NFL, you have to have a short memory. Jared Goff (19/28, 210 yards, 1 TD, 1 int) understood this well.

After an interception thrown at the very start of the match which gave the Packers a field goal (3-0), the quarterback quickly corrected the situation.

He completed twelve of his twenty passes in the first half, including a 35-yard pass to Sam Laporta, which led to the first touchdown of the game scored by Amon-Ra St Brown (3-7). David Montgomery also made his contribution by scoring two touchdowns on the ground (3-14 then 3-24). Proof of their offensive efficiency, the Lions only broke away once and scored points on four consecutive possessions.

On the Green Bay side, the drives follow one another and are similar. Apart from their first possession, the Packers’ attack is completely neutralized. Jordan Love is constantly under pressure from the Detroit defensive line, which causes five sacks and limits the Packers to 20 yards at the break.

The conquering Packers, the Lions scare each other

Returning from the locker room, the Packers showed a completely different face. More comfortable in his protective pocket, Jordan Love completed two drives concluded with touchdowns from Doubs receiving and himself running. They bring Green Bay back to two possessions (17-27). The drop in intensity in attack and defense of the Lions coupled with the indiscipline of the team (eight penalties for 70 yards) gradually brought the Packers back into the game.

If the defense loses efficiency, especially after the injury to Brian Branch, this is also the case for the Detroit attack, which does not score any points in the third quarter. The Lions end up returning to the Packers camp who force the field goal. However, Quay Walker was guilty of a penalty on the kick which cost his team the game by giving Detroit three new attempts in the red zone. David Montgomery puts an end to hopes of a comeback by scoring his third touchdown of the day (17-34).

Jerry Jacobs (CB, Lions) intercepts Jordan Love for the second time in the match (20-34) to confirm the third victory of the season for the Lions, the second defeat for the Packers.
