One more stamp on the NFL passport. This Thursday, the league announced that a 2024 regular season game will be held in Brazil. More precisely at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, a 49,000-seat stadium built for the 2014 World Cup.
This decision was approved at the owners' meeting held in Irving, Texas. Roger Goodell announced the news in a press release.
“Bringing the NFL to new continents, countries and cities around the world is a critical part of our plan to continue to grow the game globally. Brazil has established itself as a key market for the NFL, and we are excited to play in Brazil and São Paulo for the first time in 2024. We look forward to working with the city of São Paulo, SP Turis and the 'Arena Corinthians to deliver a world-class matchday experience to this passionate and growing fanbase. »
Priority marketing rights in Brazil belong to the Miami Dolphins. It is therefore likely that the Florida team will be among those who will play the first meeting in the history of the league on South American soil.
In addition to this announcement, the NFL will increase the number of road games per season. From 2025, nine matches will be played outside the United States per season, compared to five today. New destinations, such as Spain, in recent rumors, could soon be announced.
