NFL Update June 28: NFL Doomed!

Hot news

The NFL was condemned for the “Sunday Ticket”

4 billion dollars! This Thursday, the jury in the “NFL Sunday Ticket” trial ordered the league to pay this sum to fans. She will also have to pay $96 million in damages to the bars.

In response to this judgment, the league communicated:

“We are disappointed with the jury’s verdict today in the NFL Sunday Ticket class action lawsuit. We will certainly challenge this decision, as we believe the class actions in this case are without merit. We thank the jury for their time and service, as well as Judge Gutierrez’s guidance and supervision throughout the trial.”

As a reminder, a class action lawsuit, which covers 2.4 million subscribers and 48,000 companies that paid for all out-of-market games from the 2011 to 2022 seasons, claims the league violated antitrust laws by selling “Sunday Ticket” games to Google Youtube TV.

NFL outlines key dates for 2024 season

This Thursday, the NFL announced the important dates for the 2024-2025 season. As the league specifies, these dates are still subject to change. The deadline for finalizing rosters will be September 5. The calendar also confirms the deadline for player trades, which is now after Week 9 of the season.

The complete schedule can be found on the official NFL website.

The strike was good for Chris Jones

With Chiefs DT Chris Jones on strike last offseason, there's no reason he shouldn't be present during training camp this summer. However, Jones said he's had a conversation with Andy Reid about reducing his training camp participation. The goal is to limit wear and tear on his body as he heads into his ninth NFL season.

In an interview with the Kansas City Star published this Thursday:

“Listen, man, I already talked to Andy about, ‘Let me skip training camp.’ I’m a little older, right? I can feel it. I can feel when we have a day in training camp. Give me like two days off and then a day of practice, and maybe we can work something out, you know.”

After sitting out Week 1, Chris Jones recorded 10.5 sacks in 2023 and played a big role in the franchise's second straight title.

The adventure continues with Wilson

Even on a desert island Wilson is a faithful friend. The NFL announced this Thursday that it would also remain loyal to Wilson for the official ball. The league and Wilson Sporting Goods have reached an agreement on a contract extension.

As Wilson's global general manager of team sports said, this agreement continues a partnership since 1941.

“Wilson and the NFL have one of the most iconic relationships in sports, dating back more than 80 years. Since then, Wilson has been a part of every snap, pass and touchdown in NFL history. We are excited to build on this partnership as we continue to work with the league to grow the game globally and open up opportunities for everyone to be a part of the game.”

The conflict continues over Arrowhead Stadium

The competition between the states of Kansas and Missouri continues. The governor of Kansas signed a law that would fund most of the stadium costs for the Chiefs and Royals to leave Missouri and move to Kansas. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said Thursday his state is committed to keeping the teams.

“We’re going to make sure we get the best trade deal possible,” Parson said, via The Associated Press. “Look, I can’t fault Kansas for trying. You know, if I was sitting here, I’d probably do the same thing. But at the end of the day, we’re going to be competitive.”
